All the blather seems to be about keeping the Border open for trade and customs. Nobody seems to be talking about people. If it's open anyone can cross it. So whoever gets into Ireland can go to NI. So much for the 'controlling our borders' nonsense.

Not only that, they could get on a ferry from either the Republic or Orangeland to the mainland.

Right now you can get to Ireland from here or from NI without a passport, and vice-versa. That's the Common Travel Area.

So either they have to police the land and sea borders, or only police the sea border. There's no way they can keep both open without staying in the EU or joining the EEA. The loons must be frothing at the mouth, but they dare not tell the people who voted for closed borders, most of whom probably won't know where the border is in any case. Assuming they even know where Ireland is. See Maps.

Looks like it'll have to be a sea border and NI will have to be a special case, which the DUP will not like at all. Oh dear what a shame never mind.

It's a mess. London and Scotland saying it's a precedent.

I wonder when the brexiters will start exploding?

Serves the tory/ukip project right for such narrow mindedness  Wink

As usual, they're too dim to realise what the hell they're signing up to. Imagine my surprise.

She'll lose the DUP, and her Tory Rabid Right are spitting blood. I dare say only Corbyn can save her now, with his pathetic stance on Brexit. Scandalous.

Not forgetting that the DUP's central founding philosophy is hating Catholics. It's a construct of the Orange Order, Freemasons, and Toryism or worse. To be kind.

THIS is easily the best thing I've read about this fiasco.
For instance . . .

"Britain has always had the upper hand in its relations with Ireland. It was completely unprepared for the reality that Brexit is creating: a rapid waning of British diplomatic power. The Irish government knew that it had all of the other twenty-six EU member states, and the European Parliament, on its side. Since the negotiation process got under way in April, the Europeans have made it clear that their position is Ireland’s position. Britain is isolated; Ireland has powerful allies. ..."

"... For what is clear is that the Irish Question is more and more a British question: Does any British government have the authority to make a deal on Brexit? The reckless decision to leave the European Union, and the fantasies that fueled it, have destabilized the United Kingdom itself. There is a vacuum of authority, one that has been filled, most improbably, by the DUP, a party that received just 292,000 votes, or less than 1 percent of the total cast, in the UK’s general election in June. Before the Europeans can even think about a final deal with the British, they need to know whom exactly they are supposed to be dealing with. They can be forgiven for not understanding that it is the DUP."

If Paisley was in Heaven, he'd be laughing his thick head off. But he's in Hell, obviously.

There is absolutely no doubt that nobody has a clue what the fuck they are doing.  There is no strategy.  The Tories are just trying to muddle on from day to day, each individual involved just trying to do whatever they can to save their own skins, with not a thought for the consequences.  I suspect they are hoping they can continue blowing smoke until Trump brings us all to war and chaos, and Brexit gets forgotten.
